New owner of Sweeney's Seafood plans changes

Menu, hours for Sweeney’s Seafood will be expanded.

CENTERVILLE — Sweeney’s Seafood Restaurant, a fixture in downtown Centerville for 18 years, has been sold by Ron and Christine Sweeney to new owners, who will keep the restaurant’s name and are planning to expand its hours and menu offerings.

Lisa Long of Springboro, the restaurant’s new co-owner and manager, worked for 13 years at Sycamore Creek Country Club in Springboro, including more than three years as club manager supervising food service and other non-golf operations. Before that, Long operated a catering business in Pennsylvania. She said she and Candy Anderson of Springboro, also a co-owner of the restaurant, will keep the Sweeney’s name and make only some “cosmetic” changes to the restaurant, probably by the end of June.

“Sweeney’s has a great following already, and I hope to enhance it,” Long said. She’ll add specialty fish dishes and other specials on weekends and plans to expand hours. “Our vision down the road is to be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner,” she said.

Sweeney’s currently is open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday and is open for lunch Wednesday through Friday.

Ron Sweeney said he and his wife, Christy, thought it was the right time to step away, although they remain the owners of the building that houses his former restaurant, and they intend to remain in their Centerville home.

Sweeney, 60, said he is scouting for locations in the Cincinnati area, where he previously operated two restaurants and where he’d like to open a tavern-style restaurant.

The Centerville restaurant seats 160 and has 24 employees, Long said. Employment will likely increase when its hours expand, the restaurant’s new co-owner said.
