All the extra space will make room for amenities the other store didn’t have. New features include a gas station with 16 hose, an ice cream parlor with indoor and outdoor seating, a Beer Den walk-in cooler and other improvements to the coffee and fountain drink area, Cogliano said. Plus, there will be more variety of choices.
It will have the feel of other newer UDF stores, such as the store in Liberty Twp. and the most recently remodeled store in Pleasant Ridge, he said.
The Middletown location has been open 49 years. He said the current store’s 1,600 square feet was limiting, and the company has wanted to make upgrades in Middletown for some time.
Also, the location at 1224 Vail Ave. was leased. United Dairy owns the new property at 101 Verity Parkway. He didn’t disclose the cost.
United Dairy Farmers is a family-owned company that started as a maker of ice cream and milk products. The first store opened in 1940. The Norwood-based retailer has grown to 190 stores in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
Cogliano said it also delivers ice cream to 15 states. The company manufactures all of its ice cream products and sells ice cream under the brand name “Homemade.”
“I think what separates us from any other convenience store in the area and the country is the company is family owned and operated,” said Cogliano. “We feel that we’re family-oriented.”
