Projects in Dayton, Union and Vandalia are code-named to protect the identities of businesses or organizations contemplating possible moves.
Dayton’s “Project Nemo” is an Ohio company that wants to build a new distribution facility at a 2100 McCall St. brownfield site in the Westview Industrial Park. The site would serve Ohio from Columbus to Cincinnati, including parts of Kentucky and Indiana.
Dayton believes the project could spark further development along the U.S. 35 corridor in West Dayton.
Dayton is asking for $400,000 in Montgomery County ED/GE (Economic Development/Government Equity) developments funds to make possible a project whose value is put at $10.3 million.

In Union, “Project Scooter” represents another distribution and logistics company, this one searching across more than one state for a site to build a 500,000-square-foot distribution building.
Union has offered a 45-acre site on Old Springfield Road, just north of Dayton International and close to Procter & Gamble’s distribution facility, already in Union.
Union is asking the county for $350,000 in ED/GE funds in a project valued at more than $27 million.

The area around Dayton International is already home to five distribution operations so far totaling more than 2.7 million square feet employing more than 2,270 people. City officials expect more companies to make the area home.
Nearby, Vandalia has two code-named projects, “Zeppelin” and “Ocean,” that could bring a total of 50 new jobs to the city, according to its ED/GE applications. Nearly 140 current employees would be protected, that city is saying.
In Centerville, contractor Reliable Electric wants to expand its 94 Compark Road home. That would make possible 21 new jobs, protecting 80 existing jobs, Centerville said in its application.
Centerville is applying for $66,850 in that nearly $670,000 project.
In Huber Heights, Quality Quartz Engineering wants to raise a 90,000-square-foot pre-engineered metal building, adding 30 jobs to a workforce of more than 80 employees.
The company is located today at 131 Janney Road in Dayton.
In all, the seven communities are asking for a total of $1.59 million. For this ED/GE funding round, just over $2.35 million is available.
A committee of local leaders will weigh the applications, deciding which projects to recommend to Montgomery County commissioners and at what amounts. Commissioners then will have a final vote on the matter, usually following the recommendations.
