A restaurant is looking at moving into a large retail space in the Wright Dunbar Business District.

A local architect has submitted a variance request to allow an indoor dining restaurant and drive through at 1100 W. Third St.

The application says the restaurant wants to occupy the 6,800-square-foot space that is designated as an assembly hall (a special event center). The application does not include more details about the proposed establishment.

A variance is needed because the lot is smaller than what the zoning code requires for a drive-through, the application states. The property is next to Zik’s Pharmacy, which opened in 2010.

The Wright Dunbar Business District only has one sit-down restaurant: Texas Beef & Cattle, which opened in mid-2016.

The case is expected to go before Dayton’s Board of Zoning Appeals later this month.
