The Rev. Jesse Jackson calls off Kroger boycott

Rev. Jesse Jackson called off his calls for boycotts against Kroger.

Jackson launched a protest against Kroger after they announced the closures of two stores in predominantly black neighborhoods. The grocery chain is closing another store not far away in Mississippi. Jackson, a civil rights activist who was with King when he was killed, said food deserts are a serious issue in the communities.

Cincinnati news partner WCPO reported that Jackson met with Kroger executives in Chicago, calling it "a very effective meeting."

“We are out of the streets and around the bargaining table trying to resolve the dispute,” Jackson told WCPO.

Jackson said his concerns weren’t just about food deserts. “We also want to be business partners, suppliers, so it’s a complete team of officials here and we met with them and had other members of our group on the phone across the country,” he said.
