Rockathon, a record label and support mechanism for local indie musician Robert Pollard’s many projects — including his acclaimed group Guided By Voices, Circus Devils, and more — was eyeing downtown Dayton after deciding to expand about halfway through 2015, said Matt Davis, one of Rockathon’s three partners.
They reached out to the Downtown Dayton Partnership for assistance, and through the nonprofit's Site Seeker program, are now among the first tenants in that section of East Third Street with 1,100 square feet in the building.
Davis confirmed that Rockathon made its move on Dec. 19, and has closed their web store until the first week of January in order to facilitate their move from Stanley Avenue. The expanded space will help them to better assist the online web orders they facilitate, along with improving the coordination of the production company. The label and distribution company has been an entity for over 20 years now, and opened at Stanley Avenue six years ago, he said.
Rockathon will join neighboring businesses including the popular Century Bar, which announced earlier this month their plans to expand their bourbon bar at 10 S. Jefferson to include a speakeasy-themed bar in April 2016.
Davis, who manages Rockathon with Kevin Poindexter and Mike Lipps, said that all three are local to the Dayton area.
“We’re excited to see the revitalization of Downtown, and excited to be a part of it,” he said. “”It’s about time; Dayton’s a great city and it’s not sitting idle.”
