Chris Riegel, chief executive and founder of Dayton-based digital signage powerhouse Stratacache, was named the “outstanding individual,” in his industry, based on nominations from his industry peers at a global awards conference this week.

Riegel received the award at the Digital Signage Awards 2019 event in Amsterdam, Netherlands Wednesday evening.

The awards bill themselves as "impartial, independent and objective and aim to find the world's best digital signage projects, creativity, content, innovations and technology."

Globally, Riegel is increasingly known for his digital retail and restaurant signs and other customer-facing products, as well as his business acquisitions.

Locally, he is also known for two really big real estate acquisitions in less than two months.

Last week, Riegel told the Dayton Daily News that he bought downtown Dayton’s tallest building, the Kettering Tower, for $13 million. He will be moving his Stratacache headquarters there over the next 18 to 24 months, he told the news outlet. (Today, the company is based at 2 Emmet St.)

That announcement came practically on the heels of another big downtown purchase. Stratacache’s real estate acquisition arm, Arkham Ventures Inc., in December purchased the Courthouse Plaza building at 10 N. Ludlow St. across from Dayton city hall.
