Tire Discounters expanding into Huber Heights

Company plans to build at site of a vacant KFC/A&W restaurant.

HUBER HEIGHTS — A second Tire Discounters store in Huber Heights is expected to open by the end of the year, creating 10 to 12 full-time jobs, Paul Brunner, the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, said Friday.

The new store will be about 7,500 square feet — the standard store size for the company — and be located at 8381 Old Troy Pike, which currently is the site of a vacant KFC/A&W restaurant that closed about a year ago.

“It’s part of a market plan we currently don’t serve as well as we’d like to from a geographic standpoint,” Brunner said. “We feel like the Dayton area in general is a good market. That’s a very strong corridor.”

The former restaurant (5,000 square feet) will be demolished and Tire Discounters — a retail tire store and automotive service station — will construct the new store on the outlot. All utilities are on site, and the parking lot will be redone, moving the entrance to the site to the south of its current location.

Huber Heights City Council is expected to approve the project at Monday night’s meeting, said Scott Falkowski, the city’s interim assistant city manager.

“It’s good to get something in there quickly,” Falkowski said. “It’s a good use for that area.”

Tire Discounters already has a presence in Huber Heights with its 4414 Brandt Pike location, but Brunner isn’t concerned having two stores in close proximity.

“It’s amazing how close we can put stores together and they won’t take business from each other,” he said.

Tire Discounters, whose headquarters are in Cincinnati, has a total of 75 stores in its five markets: Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, Lexington and Louisville. The company has been in existence since 1976.

Brunner said the company has plans to build a dozen new stores a year, citing the company’s 70 percent repeat customer rate.

“The way we accomplish that is we provide high value and outstanding customer service,” Brunner said. “That really is what differentiates us from a lot of folks in the industry. We not only want to serve people’s automotive needs for the life of their vehicle, but for as long as they’re in the area.”
