UDF to spend $3.5 million on fuel depot, store

50 new jobs expected as part of Warren County projects.

United Dairy Farmers expects to spend more than $3.5 million and employ about 50 workers at a fuel depot and convenience store-gas station to be built about a mile apart in Warren County.

Work has already begun clearing the site for a regional depot on 3.3 acres across Ohio 122 from the fuel terminal in Clearcreek Twp., north of Lebanon.

The Prescott Tank Lines fuel facility, at 1226 Ohio 122, is to be home base for 20 drivers and about five staffers operating the depot. Prescott is UDF’s fuel hauling company.

The drivers will pick up fuel at the nearby Lebanon Terminal and deliver it throughout the region.

“Our trucks run almost all the time. We need gas 24 hours a day,” said John Johnston, the UDF architect designing both projects.

Prescott purchased the land from Gas America Services for $125,000 in September, according to property records. The permit proposes a 2,400 square foot building, parking for 12 trucks and a 256-square foot canopy.

“We’ll spend a half a million minimum there,” said Johnston. “I would hope we would be using it within 60 days.”

The development is on the north side of Ohio 122, across from the northern terminus of Hart Road in Clearcreek Twp. It is on the eastern edge of a sprawling complex, known as the Lebanon Terminal. More than dozen companies manage pipelines, tanks and distribution facilities for gasoline and natural gas products in the complex.

Also this year, UDF plans to begin work on a new $3 million, 4,500 square foot store west of the depot in Red Lion, a small town south of Springboro in Clearcreek Twp.

The store will employ 20 to 30 employees, Johnston said.

Last week, Jeff Palmer, director of planning and zoning for the township, was reviewing plans for the depot in anticipation of issuing a building permit.
