Universal 1 Credit Union plans new Sidney branch

Universal 1 Credit Union is building a new branch office in Sidney with plans to start construction next month, Lisa Carbaugh, senior vice president of administrative services, said.

The new branch, once it opens sometime in 2014, will replace the credit union’s existing 1970s facility at 2310 Industrial Dr., Sidney, in Shelby County. The new branch is being built near the intersection of Michigan Street and Lester Avenue.

Universal 1 has 11 branch offices in the Miami Valley. The Sidney office became a part of the Dayton-based credit union when in 1973, Copeland Employees Credit Union merged with Universal 1 (which was then named NCR Employees Credit Union), Carbaugh said.

“With both strong community-based membership and active select employee group membership in Shelby County, this new facility will better serve employers and our members. The great location and additional conveniences such as the drive-thru and night drop will make it easier for our members especially on bad weather days when they prefer to stay in their car,” Carbaugh said in an email. “The high visibility of this location also lets other area residents know they have a credit union choice in Sidney.”

Universal 1 will continue to have a drive-up, envelope-free ATM and lobby hours Mondays through Saturdays, Carbaugh said.
