UPS Supply Chain Solutions Inc. is considering the creation of 130 new full-time jobs in Butler County’s West Chester Twp. by the year 2020, Ohio government said Monday.

But the project could also go to a UPS location in Louisville, Ky., an Ohio development department warned.

The Ohio Tax Credit Authority Monday approved a 1.505 percent, 7-year tax credit to UPS for the creation of $5,525,000 in new annual payroll as a result of a new planned location project in West Chester, the state said.

As part of the tax credit agreement, the authority requires UPS to maintain operations at the proposed location for at least a decade.

“UPS is considering placing this expansion at its Louisville hub where they can continue to manage their large business customers’ logistical networks out of their world hub and other ... facilities,” the Ohio Development Services Agency said in its release.

The proposed project in West Chester Township involves expanding the UPS customer service network, the state said.

If the project goes forward, the new jobs would be in place by December 2020. In addition, the state said the company will claim the tax credit on Ohio employee payroll generated at the project location in excess of the company’s baseline payroll at the project location.

By letter dated Aug. 22, 2017, West Chester Twp. leaders have expressed support for the proposal.

The Tax Credit Authority met at 10 a.m. today in Columbus. It’s an independent five-member board that reviews applications for tax credit assistance for expanding or moving businesses.

The region has been a magnet lately for distribution -oriented projects. Late last month, the authority considered an application from online retail giant Amazon to build a new distribution-fulfillment center in Monroe, north of West Chester in Warren County.

That project is expected to bring 1,000 new jobs to the region, the state has said.

The specific location of Amazon’s latest investment in Ohio was not immediately disclosed, but it will be the closest location for the e-commerce giant’s network of warehouses to Dayton and marks the fourth fulfillment center announced in the state in two years. The project will add to thousands of jobs already created and billions of dollars in ongoing investment by Amazon in Ohio and northern Kentucky.
