Vandalia restaurant closes; owner working on new venture

VANDALIA — The World Cafe restaurant, which has operated for nearly three years at 768 Northwoods Blvd., has closed, and its founder and owner Robert Krzak is working on a new restaurant venture in Dayton, Krzak said Friday morning.

World Cafe provides catering for several local businesses, and, “We will carry on some of our catering operation out of another location,” Krzak said.

Krzak — a native of Koszalin, Poland who moved to the U.S. in 2005 — said he’s proud of the products and the customer experience that he created at World Cafe.

But in the end, the restaurant “fell short on delivering a stream of revenue that would allow me to be more than just afloat,” Krzak said. He said the restaurant’s location and his own shortcomings in marketing World Cafe effectively were contributing factors to the closure.

Four part-time employees were affected by the closing.

Krzak, who is a resident of downtown Dayton, said he could not release specifics of the new venture because details are still being worked out.

Dayton “is a great place for a new venture,” he said.
