Matt Jonas, vice president of manufacturing for Bosch, wrote that layoffs will be complete before August.
“It is anticipated that the layoffs will be complete by July 31, 2019,” Jonas wrote in the Jan. 9 WARN letter to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. “All positions at the facility associated with Robert Bosch Battery Systems LLC will be permanently eliminated by July 31, 2019.
Associates who are permanently laid off will receive severance, Jonas also wrote. Some employees may be able to move to other Bosch locations.
Kettering-based Local 755 of the IUE-CWA represents about 42 employees.
"It is always a tremendous loss to the workers and to the community when a plant shuts it's doors,” Local 755 President Carl Kennebrew said in a statement. “We applaud the dedication and hard work the Bosch workers have put in to their careers at this facility, some with as many as 20 years of service at the plant.”
“The decision to close the site was taken only after extensive investigation into other options,” the company said in a statement to this news outlet Thursday. “The facility will wind-down in stages to properly support customer orders. The company is in parallel pursuing an agreement to sell the facility.”
A company executive Thursday told the Dayton Daily News that she had nothing to add about a possible sale of the facility.
