Why is Buffalo Wild Wings nicknamed BW3s?

Buffalo Wild Wings was founded in 1982 by Jim Disbrow and Scott Lowery, who had recently moved to Ohio from Buffalo, New York. The two couldn’t find authentic Buffalo, New York-style chicken wings, so they decided to create a restaurant that served them in the Buckeye State.

The restaurant chain was originally named Buffalo Wild Wings & Weck. Beef on weck is a popular sandwich in New York consisting of roast beef on an au jus-soaked kummelweck roll. The original BW3 restaurant was on High Street in Columbus. In 1998, the name was changed to Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar.

Now, people just call Buffalo Wild Wings “B-Dubs” for short.
