Wilmington companies part of $285M military transportation contract

Two companies based at Wilmington Air Park have been named as sharing in a $284.9 million U.S. Transportation Command contract, a new Department of Defense release says.

ABX Air Inc. and Air Transport International Inc. were two of the 25 companies in total named in the contract to provide “heavyweight delivery services for domestic and international shipments,” a release from the DoD said late Friday.

Services will be provided to the DoD, other federal government agencies, and contractors for freight, the military said. Services required include door-to-door, time-definite, pick-up and delivery, transportation, timely and accurate shipment tracking and other services, with work to performed internationally and domestically.

The U.S. Transportation Command, Directorate of Acquisition at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, is the contracting activity.
