WorkSpace: Massage Envy owner develops relationships to build business

Massage Envy owner Matt Roberts recently sat down with the Dayton Daily News to talk about his locations in the Miami Valley. He owns three Massage Envy locations in the Dayton area.

Describe your company: Massage Envy is the nation's leader in providing therapeutic massage and skincare services. When was the company founded and how did it get started? Founded in 2002, Massage Envy has more than 1,100 franchise locations in 49 states that have together delivered more than 100 million massages and facials. Massage Envy, based in Scottsdale, Arizona, is a national franchiser, and through its franchise locations, is the leading provider of therapeutic massage and skincare services. With its membership model, Massage Envy believes total body care is an integral part of everyone's well-being journey. The Massage Envy franchise system is, collectively, the largest employer of massage therapists and estheticians, with more than 25,000 dedicated professionals that provide best-in-class service to over 1.65 million members.

How many employees? We have 95 team members across our three Dayton-area locations.

How has the company grown? Massage Envy has more than 1,100 franchise locations have together delivered more than 100 million massages and facials. Our 100 millionth service milestone occurred in January.

Describe your job: As owner my main role in our organization is to lead our team to help people feel their best. This is accomplished through an amazing group of team members all following our high standards and procedures.

What's unique about your workspace? I think what is unique about my workspace is that there isn't just one - I do have a home office to take care of the administrative activities. But where I like to spend a majority of my time is in the three locations interacting with team members and customers. This could be in the lobby or helping a therapist change the room.

What is the one thing in your workspace you can't work without? My smart phone. We are open 90 hours a week. Being available to support our team in real time enhances our customer experience.

What's your secret to success? Developing great relationships with our employee and our customers, and executing our promise to help you be a better you and modeling our values of gratitude, optimism, excellence, consistency, and empathy into every aspect of how we conduct our business.
