AAA now ‘tows’ bikes

AAA is honoring May as Bicycle Safety Month with an important announcement for cyclists. The organization known for rescuing stranded motorists on the roads now comes to the aid of bike riders. The service is an added benefit to the traditional AAA membership, with no extra charge for bike coverage. Cyclists can use the service for their own bikes or a bike rental.

“We are thrilled to offer roadside assistance for our members who ride their bikes to work or for pleasure,” said AAA spokesperson Cindy Antrican. “If a member is stranded with their bike, a driver from the AAA Roadside Rescue team will tow them and their bicycle back to their vehicle, their home or take the bike to an area bike shop for repairs.”

Representatives from AAA were joined May 20 for the announcement at the Five Rivers MetroPark Bike to Work Pancake Breakfast by Dayton.com, Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission, Wright State University and more. With pancakes flying and tires rolling more that $200 was raised for the Bike Rack Initiative through Bike Miami Valley, to help make biking and commuting the City of Dayton a lifestyle. The local cycling community is excited about the new roadside assistance offering.

In addition to roadside assistance, AAA offers discounts for cyclists through partner bike shops. Faast Cycles, K&G Bike Centers, and Parker’s Sport Shop have special discounts for AAA members.
