A Dayton police officer shot in the side of his head Tuesday night was released from the hospital Thursday, Dayton police said.

Officer Thadeu Holloway was greeted with dozens of cruisers that were on Main Street to wish him well in his recovery.

“We also want to thank the community for the prayers and support,” Dayton police said on social media.

Holloway, an eight-year veteran, was shot around 7:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Ingram Street and was taken in a police cruiser by another officer to Miami Valley Hospital, where he required surgery for a torn temporal artery. He was listed in stable condition both Tuesday and Wednesday, and officials said he suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, 39-year-old Antwyane Deon Lowe, was shot multiple times and was also taken to the hospital. He was listed in serious but stable condition Wednesday.

Officials said the shooting took place during a fraud investigation. They said Holloway stopped Lowe, who in turn attacked the officer. After being hit by a taser, Lowe pulled a gun from his pocket and shot Holloway, officials said.

Holloway, while on the ground and bleeding, returned fire and struck Lowe multiple times.
