The damage was discovered by a staff member who arrived to open the church, said officer Cynthia James, the Kettering Police Department’s public information officer.

Three windows were broken on the front of the church and one of the front doors was shattered, in addition to two windows that were damaged on a side entrance, according to a police report.

The Christmas tree in the entry had been knocked over and the ornaments scattered across the floor.

In a storage room on the north side of the church, a brick was found that had been thrown through the window. The bricks used to damage the church had been taken from the church’s landscaping, the report stated.

Community members have rallied to support the church.

By Tuesday morning, an online fundraiser raised more than $3,100 toward repairs and security cameras.
