A man is dead and a 16-year-old girl was taken into custody after a worker living above a cellphone store fired shots during an early Tuesday morning burglary in Harrison Twp.

The lights were off Tuesday at the Boost Mobile store at 3801 N. Dixie Drive that remained closed following the shooting reported around 1:40 a.m.

An investigation revealed the man who was killed was with the 16-year-old girl while they were breaking into the business. A worker living above the store confronted the man when he was already inside the business and was attempting to steal items, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

The resident fired shots, hitting the man who then drove to a residence in Dayton before he was taken to a local hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries, deputies said.

The man’s identity has not yet been released.

The shooting and break-in is under investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit. The sheriff’s office will work in cooperation with the prosecutor’s office to determine potential charges.
