Man tells Dayton police he accidentally shot victim in stomach

An 18-year-old is in the Montgomery County Jail, accused of shooting another man late Wednesday night in Dayton.

Dayton police and medics responded around 10:30 p.m. to the shooting reported in the 300 block of Delaware Avenue, between North Main Street and Salem Avenue.

A 911 caller said the shooting was accidental and that the victim was shot in the stomach, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center records.

Dayton police said the suspect told them he “inadvertently” shot the victim, who was taken to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound that was not life-threatening.

The shooting suspect was booked into jail on a preliminary negligent assault charge but no formal charges have been filed.
