Martial arts instructor indicted on more than a dozen sex charges involving teenage student

A martial arts instructor accused of sexually assaulting his 13-year-old student has been indicted on more than a dozen charges.

John Townsend III, 29, of Vandalia, is facing 10 counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a third-degree felony, and five counts of sexual imposition, a third-degree misdemeanor, according to a Montgomery County grand jury report.

The alleged incidents took place between Jan. 9 and May 10 and was investigated by Vandalia police, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.

A warrant has been issued for Townsend’s arrest. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 30.
