Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash in Dayton

A man was fatally struck late Friday night by a hit-and-run driver while walking across a street in Dayton.

The pedestrian, identified as 52-year-old Malik Mize of Dayton, was walking east on Hillcrest Avenue at the North Main Street intersection around 11:20 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle headed north on North Main Street, according to a crash report filed by the Dayton Police Department.

Mize was in the crosswalk and crossing the street against the red walk signal at the time of the crash, according to the report.

He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased Friday night, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

The vehicle did not remain at the scene and the crash is under investigation.

There now have been at least 70 pedestrian-related crashes — three fatal — in Montgomery County so far this year, according to data from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
