A man was shot in the leg Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot outside Olive Garden in Butler Twp.

The shooting was reported around 3:15 p.m. 6722 Miller Lane, according to the Huber Heights Police Division, which dispatches for the Butler Twp. Police Department.

“There’s been a shooting. Somebody’s shot and hurt. I need an ambulance,” a 911 caller told a dispatcher.

The gunshot victim told police he had been shot by another person while they were sitting in a vehicle. The victim was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper right thigh, Butler Twp. Police Chief John Porter said Wednesday in a release.

Butler Twp. police used yellow crime tape to block the entrances to the parking lot for Olive Garden and adjacent restaurant Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill while they investigated.

In a parking lot, police were seen taking prints off a car and searching it and placing items such as gloves and a hoodie into paper evidence bags before the car was towed. Police removed the crime tape around 4:15 p.m.

“It should be noted that we believe neither the victim or suspect have any connection with Olive Garden or any of the local businesses in the township,” Porter said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Butler Twp. police at 937-890-2671 or Miami Valley Crime Stoppers at 222-STOP (7867) or miamivalleycrimestoppers.com.
