The thefts happened between Jan. 1, 2020, and April 8 of this year at the business at 2715 Culver Ave. in Kettering where Piersall formerly worked as an office manager.
The loss to the business totaled $26,456.22, including $19,898.96 in pay and bonus checks and $6,917.26 in purchases on the company’s credit and gas cards, according to a Kettering Police Department report.
“Jodi stated that she did add hours to her pay and said she did this because she felt she was underpaid and undervalued,” the report said.
Pay periods from Jan. 3 to April 4 showed that 10 of the 15 pay periods had extra time added, and that an extra $11,800.75 was paid to Piersall in 2021, according to the report.
Piersall also reportedly used the company’s credit card at Kohl’s and AT&T and also to pay bar tabs and her personal cellphone bill, which Piersall told police were errors on her part.
When confronted about the gas card, Piersall initially denied making unauthorized purchases, including for diesel fuel when the business does not have vehicles that use diesel. She also said the card may have been misplaced and used by someone else. The detective pointed out the card requires a code, and said he would be getting video from locations the card had been used and hoped to not see Piersall, according to the report.
“At this point Jodi admitted to making the purchases herself or giving the card to friends to use and providing the code to use the card,” the report stated.
A message seeking comment from Singer Vaughn Electric was not returned Tuesday.
