An Indiana woman who embezzled nearly $380,000 over seven years from a Miamisburg-based business was sentenced to probation.

Corinna C. Bystrom, 45, of Liberty, Ind., was sentenced Wednesday by Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Susan Solle to up to five years of community control sanctions. She pleaded guilty Nov. 12 to one count of aggravated theft a week before her trial.

She was accused of stealing from Stateline Medical Equipment Inc., her employer of 14 years.

“An internal audit by Stateline Medical uncovered the defendant, an employee, had been writing unauthorized checks to herself since 2016, totaling approximately $380,000,” the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office stated.

The checks were written between Nov. 1, 2016, and April 11, 2023, according to court records.

Bystrom’s attorney Antony Abboud said after graduating from high school that she worked at a local pizza restaurant for the business owner, and that after working at a bank and doing accounting for a local plumbing and heating company she was offered a position at the medical equipment company.

“For the past 14 years, Ms. Bystrom worked her way up to managing her own location for Stateline,” Abboud wrote in a sentencing memorandum requesting probation instead of prison. “It should be noted that she has no prior criminal history.”

Bystrom had faced up to three years in prison. She is next due back in court April 15 for a probation status hearing.
