Tupac Shakur was shot to death in 1996, and his mother took over handling his estate, which earned close to $1 million a year.
Tupac recorded "Dear Mama" in 1995, forgiving his mother for her failings and thanking her for her love. The song was trending Tuesday on social media, including Facebook and Twitter.
In 2014 Afeni Shakur, a part-time Atlanta resident, co-produced "Holler If Ya Hear Me," a Broadway musical based on her son's music.
“All Eyez on Me,” a movie based on Tupac’s life, is set to be released this year.
Afeni Shakur said in the 2011 video that she celebrated his life but still missed his presence.
“I miss interacting with that human being, that perfect being that excited, lovable, really magnificent spirit,” she said. “I miss my son every day a little bit more, but I thank God every day for every second that he was here.”
Afeni Shakur died in California, after suffering possible cardiac arrest.
