Lee took the stage, on the arm of his mother, announcing “I’m going to sing a song for you on the piano.”
His mother, Tina Lee, told judges Gabrielle Union, Julianne Hough, Howie Mandel and Simon Cowell, “We found out he loved music really early on. He listened and his eyes just went huge and he started singing.”
“Through music and performing, he was able to withstand living in this world, because when you’re autistic, it’s really hard to do what everybody else does,” Tina Lee told the panel of judges. “It actually has saved his life, playing music.”
Then Kodi Lee started playing "A Song for You," Billboard reported.
When he was done, Cowell started a standing ovation for the singer and some of the audience, including the judges, were brought to tears by the performance, USA Today reported.
Union, who is joining the judge's table this season, gave Kodi Lee the golden buzzer and gave the singer a hug backstage, telling him, "You just changed the world!," according to USA Today.
