The Duchess, former actress Meghan Markle, is not the first American or even the first American actress to give birth to a royal baby.
Before Meghan married Prince Harry and birthed the seventh person in line to the British throne, seven other American women became mothers to royal offspring.
Rita Hayworth
A bombshell actress in the 1940s and ’50s, Hayworth married Prince Aly Khan, whose father was the head of the Ismaili Muslims, in 1949. They had a daughter, Princess Yasmin Aga Khan, before divorcing just two years later.

Grace Kelly
Another actress who said goodbye to Hollywood and hello to a throne was Grace Kelly. Kelly met Rainer III, Prince of Monaco, at the Cannes Film Festival, and the two married in 1956. She gave birth to three children: Princess Caroline in 1957, Prince Albert in 1958 and Princess Stéphanie in 1965.

Caroline Lee Radziwill
Her sister, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, might have been American royalty, but Radziwill was actual royalty. When she married Polish Prince Stanisław Albrecht Radziwill in 1959, she was given the title of “Her Serene Highness.” They had two children, Anthony and Ana.

Hope Cooke
Cooke was a freshman at Sarah Lawrence College when she visited India in 1959. She met Palden Thondup Namgyal, the Crown Prince of Sikhism, while there. He was twice her age and already had two children, but she renounced her U.S. citizenship and married him, becoming the Queen of Sikhism. She gave birth to two children, Prince Palden Gyurmed Namgyal and Princess Hope Leezum Namgyal.
Lisa Halaby
Halaby married Jordan’s King Hussein bin Talal in 1978, becoming Queen Noor. She had four children with King Hussein: Prince Hamzah in 1980, Prince Hashim in 1981, Princess Iman in 1983 and Princess Raiyah in 1986.

Kelly Rondestvedt
An investment banker from Florida, Rondestvedt met Hubertus, Hereditary Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, in 2007. Prince Albert and Queen Victoria were part of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Today, it's better known as the House of Windsor. When she married the prince in 2009, Rondestvedt was given the title of Duchess of Saxony. They have three chidren: Princess Katharina in 2013, Prince Philipp in 2015 and Princess Madeleine in 2017.
Kendra Spears
Spears was a model before she met and married Prince Rahim Aga Khan in 2013. Prince Rahim is the eldest son of His Highness Aga Khan IV. The couple have two children, Prince Irfan in 2015 and Prince Sinan in 2017.
