Report: Britney Spears checks into mental health facility during dad's illness

Britney Spears has checked herself into a mental health facility as her father, Jamie Spears, continues to have health issues, according to TMZ.

The celebrity news site reported that, according to unnamed sources, the singer has been distressed over her father's illness, which the site claims is not getting better.

Britney Spears announced in January that her Britney: Domination Las Vegas residency has been put on hold as her father's colon spontaneously ruptured and he was immediately hospitalized and taken into surgery. He spent a month in a Las Vegas hospital.

"I will not be performing my new show Domination. I've been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart. However, it's important to always put your family first… and that's the decision I had to make," Spears said in a Jan. 4 statement on Instagram. "A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We're all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand."

TMZ reported that Spears checked herself into the facility a week ago and will live there for 30 days.

The news comes as People reported the singer and mother of two posted a photo of a quote that reads, "Fall in love with taking care of yourself, mind, body, spirit" on Instagram on Wednesday. She included the caption, "We all need to take time for a little 'me time.' :)"

E! News reported Jamie Spears and attorney Andrew M. Wallet were named co-conservators of Britney Spears' estate in January 2008. A Los Angeles judge put the conservatorship in place when she was hospitalized twice that month. The Blast reported that Wallet resigned in March, leaving Jamie Spears as the sole conservator of the singer's estate.
