Free grub: More than 20 restaurants offering Veterans Day food deals

A sampling of dining offers happening today (or soon)

Army staff sergeants Adam Malonjao and Katie Conley will celebrate the grand opening of their new supplement and smoothie shop, the aptly named Ice Ice Smoothie, during a 2 p.m. Veterans Day ribbon cutting.

“We don’t use any fruit syrup. We only use fresh fruits that we cut,” Huber Heights-raised Malonjao said. “We are trying to keep it very healthy.”

Members of Malonjao’s Indiana-based reservist unit are expected to attend the celebration at the shop located at 2821 Wilmington Pike in Kettering.

Customers can take advantage of raffles, smoothie discounts and promotions throughout the day. The health and nutrition-focused business opens at 6:30 a.m. and closes at 11 p.m.

Malonjao said Ice Ice Smoothie caters to those interested in post workout, energy and/or just plain tasty smoothies.

The business opened about a month ago.

Malonjao and Conley, Huber Heights residents, met in 2011 while deployed in Iraq. They developed an appreciation of smoothies as an alternative to food provided by the military.

Customers can customize their smoothies, and frozen yogurt is a menu option as well. Malonjao said. Eventually the business plans to serve meals.
