The restaurant may be targeting the former Popeye’s Chicken & Biscuit site in that strip mall, although the specific location was not named in the liquor permit application.
“Popeye’s already remodeled for food use,” noted Nathan Cahall, Centerville economic development administrator.
Popeye’s closed in January.
Cahall added that the liquor permit for Godfather’s likely will be approved by the beginning of August, and then building plans would follow.
“(Businesses) almost always wait until they get the liquor permit (approved) before they proceed,” he said.
The only other Dayton-area Godfather’s is at 4628 Brandt Pike, across from Thomas A. Cloud Park. The park is in Huber Heights, but the restaurant is in Dayton.
Also angling for new Centerville digs is Dunkin’ Donuts. That restaurant chain has applied for a conditional-use permit at 6201 Wilmington, at the intersection of Wilmington and Clyo Road.
Dunkin’ Donuts would occupy the space in the BP station formerly occupied by Wild Bean Cafe.
The conditional-use permit would allow for the site to add a drive-through window.
A public hearing about the permit is scheduled for the July 19 Centerville City Council meeting.
Cahall said he does not foresee a holdup for the doughnut chain.
“I would be incredibly shocked if it didn’t get approved,” Cahall said.
The only other area Dunkin’ Donuts is at 7777 Springboro Pike in Miamisburg, near the Dayton Mall.
