Station goes from Christmas music to country

It would seem that Christmas music is the missing link between modern rock and country.

Alpha Media Dayton changed the format of 101.5 FM from modern rock to Christmas music at 10 a.m. Tuesday and branded itself Santa 101.5 FM.

Brad Waldo, the Alpha Dayton’s operation manager, said the switch was made to get attention to the frequency.

The publicity stunt got the station a lot of attention, but left many people scratching their heads in confusion.

Now we know what was up.

The station re-branded itself 101.5 FM Hank: Icons of Country this morning.

“While the Miami Valley has several country hit stations, 101.5 Hank FM promises to differentiate itself by playing the iconic artists absent from Dayton radio — musicians that made country music popular — such as Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, George Strait, Reba McEntire, Shania Twain and Brooks & Dunn,” a press release says.

When we spoke Wednesday, the station representatives said didn’t know when the format change would take place.
