The season teaser was released Wednesday on Apple Podcast and other streaming services.
"We chose Cleveland because they let us record everywhere: courtrooms, back hallways, judge's chambers, prosecutors offices," Serial host Sarah Koenig said in the tease.
During the show's first two seasons, a single case was highlighted. But Koenig and reporter Emmanuel Dzotsi will follow many stories this season for the investigative journalism podcast.

The first two episodes of the new season will debut Sept. 20. Additional episodes will be released Thursdays.

Launched in 2014 as part of a collaboration with WBEZ in Chicago, the last two seasons of Serial have been downloaded 340 million times, according to a recent Los Angeles Time article.
Serial Productions released the popular podcast series S-Town in 2017.
