The John Rankin House is located in Ripley, Ohio on a bluff overlooking the Ohio River. John Rankin, a Presbyterian minister and abolitionist, lived in this house with his wife Jean and their 13 children. Conductors on the Underground Railroad, the Rankin family moved over 2,000 fugitive slaves through the home on their journey to freedom. The site, locally managed by Ripley Heritage, Inc. in partnership with Ohio History Connection, is open from May through October. Tours with school groups are also available.
