It would be easy to be disappointed after the worst mix-up in Oscar history, when the cast and crew of La La Land had to deal with the disappointment of winning and losing the top honor of the evening in a split second.

But here are a few reasons we are proud of John Legend after last night’s Academy Awards ceremony.

1. LOTS OF BIG MOMENTS FOR LA LA LAND

Legend not only costarred in “La La Land,” he also produced it with Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorius. While Legend didn’t earn any individual awards for his work on the film, he was part of the celebration.

Some big wins for the film:

“La La Land” won best director for Damien Chazelle, who at 32 became the youngest person to win in that category.

Emma Stone won best actress for her role in “La La Land” as a struggling, aspiring actress who nearly gives up on her Hollywood dream, mustering the courage to make one more try after encouragement from her on-screen boyfriend (Ryan Gosling, who was also nominated).

Benj Pasek took home the Academy Award for Best Song for “City of Stars” from “La La Land.” He, along with cowriter Josh Hurwitz (who won for best score) and Justin Paul, were actually nominated twice in the category.

2. A LEGENDARY PERFORMANCE

John Legend performed a soulful mash-up of “City of Stars” and “Audition (The Fools Who Dream)” from “La La Land” during the ceremony.

Dancers encircled Legend’s piano, an two even re-enacted the dancing in the sky scene from the musical.

3. FASHION GOALS

John and wife Chrissy are always relationship goals. But especially on the Red Carpet!

4. WINNING LEGACY

Don’t forget Legend is no stranger to Oscar gold. He and Common took home the Oscar for their song “Glory” from SELMA at the 2015 Oscars.
