New “Pig” barbecue festival coming to Dayton

PigFest USA will be held Friday and Saturday at the Dayton Expo Center.

Feeling a little piggy?

It may have something to do with PigFest USA’s pending invasion of the Dayton Expo Center, 3900 McCauley Drive in Dayton.

The new food festival is planned for 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.Saturday, Aug. 22 and 23.

“It is the taste of it. It is great. (It’s) the smell of the smoke when it cooking,” PigFest organizer Chad Mullins of Tradeshow Productions said. “The smell really draws people.”

The first-time event from the Dayton-based company will feature music and grub from eight BBQ pitmasters.

Admission is $7 at the door. It is $5 with $2 off coupons found at pigfestusa.com.

“We have pitmasters selling their barbecue, their brisket and their chicken,” Mullins said. “It is a big festival.”

There will also be face painting, a bouncy house, 40 arts and craft vendors, bacon ice cream and other treats and rock, blues, jazz and country music each day.

The music line up includes Mississippi Red and The Wright Brothers Friday and Smokin’ Ham Band; Back Talk Blues Band; Zakk Knight Band and Eric Steckel Saturday.

Pitmasters include local favorites like Company 7 BBQ of Englewood, Rudys Smokehouse of Springfield and Gs Cue BBQ and Brixx Ice Company of Dayton. Out-of-town vendors include Pigtails BBQ of Salem, Ohio and Charlie’s Piggin’ N’ Grinnin’ of Benton Harbor, Mich.

Mullins said Tradeshow has more than 28 years in event planning in Ohio and Tennessee.

Other PigFest USA festivals will be held Oct. 3 and 4 at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Hilliard and Oct. 17 and 18 at the Knoxville Expo Cente in Knoxville, Tenn.
