Fish Fry Guide: Your calendar for deep-fried deliciousness

The Midwest has many deep-seated traditions rooted in celebrations around food — one of my favorites is winter fish fries, which take place like clockwork during the Lenten season.

These are community events that bring people together in droves to break bread and thousands of pounds of crispy, flaky fish together.

Many of the region’s favorite annual fish fries have been announced and are coming up in the next two months.

Use this list to make a plan to enjoy some of the deep-fried, moist fish housed in a golden crispy shell. The sides, the beer and the games are wonderful compliments, but it’s that haddock, sole, cod, perch and walleye that have us all coming back for more.

If your school, church, VFW Hall or other nonprofit organization (sorry, no restaurants or taverns) hosts a fish fry, we want to know about it. Send a message to me at alexis.e.larsen@hotmail.com and I will try to include it in future coverage.

Please note: Details and pricing are subject to change. We highly recommend you call first if you have specific questions and to confirm details. Most of these offer advance tickets at a discount, which is an added incentive to reach out.
