Why have a normal Friday night when you can have a *funky* Friday night? 🕺🏾

The Market at the Park is partnering with The Funk Music Hall of Fame & Exhibition Center, to bring Dayton a first Friday celebration like no other on Jan. 4, 2019.

>>GUIDE: It’s time for a fresh start at the first First Friday of the year

Start your evening with a tour of Dayton's funk museum beginning at 5 p.m. and open until 7 p.m. for only $5.

Then, the party really starts at the Market at the Park with an evening of funk! The festivities will kick off with a special talk from David R. Webb, President and CEO, Chairman of The Funk Music Hall of Fame & Exhibition Center. Stick around for fun and dancing with BrandNewFunk by DJ Christopher Etch Weyrich.

The market’s resident vendors will be open as well as special themed pop up vendors and artists that you won't want to miss, including Funk Photography from Jennifer Taylor.

After years of planning, the Funk Music Hall of Fame and Exhibition Center is finally open. The museum, located at 113 E. Third St. in downtown Dayton’s Fire Blocks District, had its grand opening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16 at the Dayton Metro Library, 215 E. Third St. in downtown Dayton. “It’s been great seeing the response we’ve gotten just weeks after the Market’s first open house,” Mike Bisig, owner at Mike’s Indoor Bike Park and The Market at the Park said in a previous interview. “We knew there were people who would fit well in the type of developmental market we had in mind, but even still, seeing all of the talented artists, bands, vendors and more, has been really exciting.”

Unveiled just this October, The Market at the Park announced regular open hours: the market will be open every First Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday every week from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“Open regular weekly hours, you’re going to be able to see and be a part of the development of our vendors firsthand. These are really creative people who are pushing what they do constantly,” Bisig said. “With the First Friday events, we wanted to encourage everyone to come and interact — inviting out musicians, artists, photographers, DJs and anyone else who wants to build on the creative spirit of what we’re trying to do.”

Dayton got its first look at a new space for artists, vendors and musicians on Thursday, Oct. 11. The Market at the Park on Crane Street is a new communal space for artists, musicians and starting businesses. The space includes a fully equipped band rehearsal space as well. TOM GILLIAM/CONTRIBUTED

The Market at the Park is "dedicated to the numerous talented artisans of the greater Dayton area." It seeks to be a communal space for starting businesses.

“Settling into our building, we had a great opportunity to do something unique with the offices off of Crane Street,” Bisig said. “Tapping into Dayton’s living history as a hub for innovation, we want The Market at the Park to be a showcase of that. A communal space where artists, vendors and musicians can all start to develop what they want to do.”
