The 1984 film Ghostbusters is such a cult classic, there is a website devoted to its fans, www.gbfans.com. On the site fans can buy the movies, cartoons, games, publications, equipment, and toys.

For sure, many of those fans live in Ohio. Approximately 60 are members of The Real Ohio Ghostbusters (TROG). Mike Sopronyi is a member who will be on hand Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Air Force Museum for the giant screening of the original movie.

“I saw the movie when I was 4 years old, and I’ve loved it ever since,” said Sopronyi, a Miamisburg resident and TROG member since 2004. “The Real Ohio Ghostbusters have teams all over the state, in Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, Toledo, and Akron.”

And those teams have access to replicas of the Ecto-mobile, and the Ecto-1 will be parked outside the museum. Sopronyi and about five other members of the TROG will be on hand for photo opportunities at 3 p.m.

“We’ll be making an appearance in full gear,” said Sopronyi. “One of my favorite ghostbusters is Harold Ramis, because I wear glasses, and my hair was pouffy when I was younger.”

The TROG members will have their positron colliders so they can generate proton beams to polarize the negatively charged ectoplasmic entities (ghosts). They don’t want to be caught off guard like Peter Venkman in the movie, and get slimed by a close encounter with an ugly green ghost. Or, even worse, get smashed by the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

Ghostbusters fans are encouraged to come in costume and enjoy the movie, “a disaster of not-quite Biblical proportions.” Ticket-holders will receive free candy at the door.

“This is a great opportunity for the kids to get to know a real classic, said Sopronyi. “And to know if there is every a monster or ghost under your bed, who ya gonna call?”

This Hollywood film series will continue on the fourth Sunday of each of the next two months with Top Gun 3D in November and Avengers: Age of Ultron in December.
