A Sidney woman has been found guilty of charges related to animal cruelty after French bulldogs were found living in filthy conditions when her house caught fire in March.

Grazyna Hanna Latocha was found guilty on two counts of prohibitions against companion animals and ordered to pay restitution exceeding $35,000 for feed from boarding and veterinarian care.

One dog died after a house fire on North Walnut Avenue, and the rest were kept as evidence in Latocha’s trial.

James Frye, Chief Deputy of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, said he believes the dogs will be forfeited and he plans to adopt them out. He believes the office will take applications and have a lottery for the adoption of the dogs.

The dogs were rescued from a house fire in March. Firefighters reported that the dogs were kept in wire cages stacked on top of each other without a plastic tray. Some of the dogs had callouses on their paw pads from the wire and feces and urine were running down the cages, according to previous reports.
