Editor’s note: The Dayton Ombudsman Office provides weekly columns to the Dayton Daily News to bring awareness to issues it sees in the community.

The Ombudsman received a complaint from a woman who was denied visitation with a friend by an area correctional institution. She has visited her friend several times in the past but was taken off the visitation list. She was unable to learn why she was suddenly denied visitation.

The Ombudsman contacted the institution and requested a return telephone call regarding the complaint. The Ombudsman received a return call and presented the complaint, and the names of the persons involved. The Ombudsman was then informed that the issue was resolved and visitation privileges were reinstated.

The Ombudsman then contacted the complainant in order to confirm that the matter had been resolved. The complainant confirmed that the visitation privileges were reinstated, and expressed gratitude for Ombudsman help in getting this resolved.

The Ombudsman Column, a production of the Joint Office of Citizens’ Complaints, summarizes selected problems that citizens have had with government services, schools and nursing homes in the Dayton area. Contact the Ombudsman by writing to us at 11 W. Monument Ave., Suite 606, Dayton 45402, call 937-223- 4613, or by electronic mail at ombudsman@dayton-ombudsman.org.
