A woman called the Ombudsman Office for assistance with her Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Benefits (SNAP). Her benefits in the amount of $291.00 were added to her card on 12/6/2023, and the very next day $290.00 were used in Chicago. The woman had not been to Chicago, and had not used the benefits and so she reported this to the Department of Job and Family Services Fraud Unit. She has not received a call from Montgomery County Job and Family services, and she remains without SNAP benefits. She contacted the Ombudsman for assistance.

The Ombudsman contacted the Montgomery County Department of Job and Family Services on the woman’s behalf. We inquired if the report about the stolen food stamps had been received and the status of reissuance of her SNAP benefits.

The response to our inquiry came quickly. We learned that the woman’s replacement benefits were processed the day before, and that she should have access to those benefits today. The woman was contacted with the good news and she was thrilled.
