Themed to space and science fiction, the National Museum of the US Air Force will soon host “After Dark: Cosmic Camp,” and it’s for people 21 and older.

The event will highlight the real world history of US space travel while including space-themed games and trivia. It’s set for 6-10 p.m. Sept. 7. Guests will “explore the Space Shuttle Crew Compartment Trainer and hear astronaut Mark Brown talk about his experiences in orbit.”

In addition, the Ohio garrison of the popular Star Wars costuming group the 501st Legion will be available for photo opportunities.

A silent disco will also set up for the event, where dancers wear headphones and listen to a selection of music stations. This allows guests to partake in a unique music experience separate from everyone else.

The Dayton Silent Disco Prom Night was held The Brightside Music & Event Venue in downtown Dayton on Friday, March 29, 2024 as the last Brightside winter residency date before returning home to Yellow Cab Tavern in April. Attendees were loaned headphones with the capability to change between the green, blue & red stations and adjust the volume. The following DJs were featured: KimL on the green station with EDM, Sexbox on the blue station with '70s, '80s, and '90s and John Chapel on the red station with modern hits. Rarely showcased items from Wright State University and the museum’s archives will be showcased for guests, with members of the museum’s staff on hand to give more information.

Attendees can also see firsthand a number of crafts used in the United States space program, such as the Atlas Rocket or the Lockheed Martin Titan IVB Rocket.

Restoration specialists at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force installed an LV-3B/SM-65D Atlas rocket inside the museum's Missile Gallery on 29 April, 2024 after a three year restoration of the Atlas that was built as the first U.S. nuclear intercontinental ballistic missile.(ICBM) The rocket on display represents the launch vehicIe for U.S. Air Force Maj Gordon Cooper's Mercury-Atlas 0 misson on May 15-16, 1963.
