Longtime Dayton Daily News Lifestyles reporter and columnist Meredith Moss is among the recipients of the inaugural Dayton Art Champion award from The Contemporary Dayton.

Moss is being recognized for her support of Dayton’s artist community and The Contemporary Dayton for 2024. Additional recipients include Five Rivers Health, Linda Lombard and Paul Marshall, Dr. Bob Brandt and Sandy Gudorf.

Moss has been writing for the Dayton Daily News since her fashion column, “Window Shopping,” debuted in 1976. Her “On the Arts” column appears on Sundays highlighting a variety of people, places and events. Her “Make a Difference” column appears in the Life section on Thursdays spotlighting various service organizations in the Dayton area and their specific needs.

A native Daytonian and graduate of Fairview High School, Moss is a Leadership Dayton graduate and has been active in organizations ranging from the Junior League of Dayton to the Jewish Federation. She is also an active community volunteer and is the recipient of numerous community awards including the YWCA’s Woman of Influence award.

Her love of the arts is particularly immense. In addition to The Contemporary Dayton, she has supported such organizations as Dayton Art Institute, Dayton Live, Dayton Playhouse, Dayton Theatre Guild, Human Race Theatre Company, Muse Machine, The Neon, Sinclair Community College, University of Dayton, Wright State University, and Young at Heart Players among others.

Moss also notably worked with the late Phil Donahue when his Dayton-based television show first became syndicated. She was the first promotion director for “The Phil Donahue Show.”

The Dayton Art Champion honors will be presented at a reception that will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14 in The Tank at the Dayton Arcade. The reception will be followed by The Contemporary Dayton’s annual fundraiser, Prelude, previously the annual art auction, from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
