DIY for cheap: floating cork key chain

If your summer activities include being on the water, whether boating, canoeing, kayaking or skiing, then this is a great do-it-yourself project for you.

Losing your keys while out on the water can sink your day. Why not give yourself a little extra protection? In just a matter of minutes you can create this key chain to help keep your keys afloat if they ever fall from your pocket. Remember though, if you have a lot of keys, you may need multiple cork keychains to keep them floating.

Supplies needed

Items I purchased:

• Metal key chain rings — $2.49 at Michaels Arts & Crafts (for a pack of 10)

• Eye screws — $1.99 at Michaels Arts & Crafts

Items I already had:

• Cork top

Directions

1. Save your cork top from the last bottle of wine you finished. Wash it off and make sure it is still solid and not crumbling apart.

2. Take your eye screw and screw it into the center of the bottom of your cork. Make sure it is in tight and doesn’t pull out easily.

3. Attach your metal keychain ring to the eye screw.

4. Place your key on the chain and you are ready to go. This will keep your key floating in water and will help you avoid any headaches while having fun in the sun.
