DIY under $10: key holder for outside

Have you ever locked yourself out of your house and didn’t have a spare key? If you want to leave a spare key outside, then you need to think outside of the box.

Leaving a key under your doormat or in another obvious location can be unsafe and can leave your house open as a target of a home invasion. Here is a great way for just $1 to create a key holder that is fast, easy to make and won’t draw attention.

You will need

Items I purchased:

• Bag of river rocks — $1 at the Dollar Tree

Items I already had:

• Empty pill bottle

• Gorilla glue

• Permanent marker

• Spare key

Directions

1. Remove all labels from your pill bottle.

2. Take the lid of the bottle and color it black using your permanent marker.

3. Use a rock and glue it to the lid of your pill bottle. Make sure it covers most if not all of your lid.

4. Once the rock is glue to your lid, place your key inside the container and put the lid back on.

5. Dig a hole in one of your potted outdoor plants that is deep enough to cover the entire bottle. The only thing you want to show is the rock. To the naked eye, this will look just like a rock in your pot, but to you, you will know that you can dig up the bottle and retrieve your key if you need it. For added security, you can add other rocks to your pot so the one lone rock doesn’t look out of place.
