DIY under $10 project: make a rope vase

Decoration will look good indoors or outdoors.

Are you looking for a nautical-themed decoration that looks great indoors or outdoors? Why not make it yourself?

This great rope vase costs only $5.98 to make and will add texture and style to your room.

You can also use this same technique on straight vases or votive holders to get a wide range of sizes and shapes.

You will need

Purchased:

  • Jute or rope — $2.99 at Hobby Lobby

  • Flowers — $2.99 at Kroger

Items I already had around the house:

  • Glue gun and glue sticks
  • Empty wine or champagne bottle

Directions

1. Clean and dry your champagne or wine bottle.

2. Start at the base of your bottle and add a thin line of glue around half of the bottle. Wrap the jute or rope on top of this glue.

You will only want to work in half-bottle sections because the glue will harden before you wrap completely around.

3. Continue to add strips of glue and then jute around your bottle until you get about ten lines of completely glued jute around the bottle.

4. Once you get about 10 lines secured, you can begin adding just one large dollop of glue to the bottle.

Quickly wrap the jute around so that it is stacked tightly on top of the jute below and secured within the dollop of glue.

5. Continue wrapping your jute until you reach the top rim of your bottle.

Add a complete ring of glue around the top to finish off the piece and cover it in jute.

6. Once complete, you can add flowers to the vase and enjoy this textured piece both indoors and outdoors.

Plus, since it is a natural item, it can withstand the weather much better than other decorative pieces.
