When we asked celebrity TV chef Alton Brown what his favorite dishes to make are during a recent interview he didn’t skip a beat answering.

“I am a very accomplished cooker of flesh,” said Brown, who will be in Dayton on Monday for a stop on his Edible Inevitable Tour. “I also make a mean plate of scrambled eggs” or as he calls it “liquid meat.”

That may be something he excels at, but these days he’s eating a lot less of it. In 2009 Brown dropped 50 pounds through a major change in his diet or as he puts it, a “scientific applications of nutritional principles.”

He created four lists for himself.

The lists have to do with the frequency of consumption of different foods, as outlined below.

Daily: Fruits, whole grains, leafy greens, nuts, carrots, green tea

At least three times a week: Oily fish, yogurt, broccoli, sweet potato, avocado

At most once a week: Red meat, pasta, dessert, alcohol (he makes his a martini)

Never: Fast food, soda (except club soda), processed meals, canned soup, “diet” foods

He also makes sure to eat breakfast daily. In particular Brown is a fan of breakfast smoothies. Here’s a recipe for one of his morning concoctions that helps him start the day.

Alton Brown’s Morning Smoothie
