Grills at the right price; buy what’s right for you

User-friendly websites guide consumers to make the right choice.

Summer is just around the corner, and I have noticed grills are already being marked down, heralding, hopefully, a glorious blaze of endless outdoor dining and entertaining.

I have seen fantastic prices on grills at Meijer, Kroger, Target, Sears, Aldi, Ace Hardware, Kmart, drugstores and even consignment shops.

My brother, Matthew, lives in Phoenix, and is he is one of the finest grill masters I know. (When I was in Arizona for Christmas last year, he grilled salmon one night. Delicious.) I drilled him about what to keep in mind when shopping for a grill.

Naturally, he points out, your budget is the first thing. And definitely look at how many people you will be feeding. Is the feast for just a few or a village?

Consider how you want to fuel your amazing meal. Do you prefer charcoal or propane or natural gas?

Remember, as my brother points out: Natural gas requires a gas line where your grill is located. Or are you all about electric?

Brotherly advice aside, I do urge folks to check out what the Internet has to offer. Weber’s website, for instance, has an incredibly user-friendly blog and even a personality quiz as to what kind of grill would suit you best.

The site also offers downloadable guides. One dispenses advice on how to grill meals that are not only great tasting but also good for you.

It includes 11 recipes, plus tips and insights on how to prepare and enjoy wholesome, nutritious grilled foods.

I recently spotted a Char-Broil four-burner Infrared gas grill on sale for $399.99. I truly wanted this handsome unit (it was $100 off the original price), as I was finally ready to learn how to grill after all these years of having my brothers, nephews, ex-boyfriends and Dad don the chef’s apron.

But, alas, I did not purchase the grill.

As my dear friend Debbie pointed out: “Robin, you have no business being behind a grill. You burn everything when you cook.”

She is absolutely right. Therefore I will call upon the kindness of friends, family members, would-be suitors and restaurateurs ... and let them prepare my fave meals: grilled asparagus, portobello mushrooms, chicken, shrimp, salmon or steak.
